NO PLACE LIKE HOME: CENTRAL QUEENSLAND

Updated: Jan 3, 2023

Less than an hour from Rockhampton, Central Queensland lies a 4WDers hidden paradise with beaches, forests and creek crossings galore.

Ask any 4x4 enthusiast in Australia where they're dreaming of going for their next adventure and you can expect a swift response. Luckily for us Aussies, there is endless opportunity for travel off the beaten track and you needn't go far to find it.

My backyard is Central Queensland and within a few hours drive you can find yourself among cattle stations with grassy plains, rainforest-lined creeks, rugged mountain ranges and breath-taking coastal scenery.

Though there are many points of interest, my favourite area consists of the pine plantations and subtropical rainforests in Byfield National Park. The area is a 4WDers paradise with creek crossings, muddy tracks, sand driving and rock crawling all within close proximity.

After a hot day you can cool off in the refreshing creeks and - best of all - if you're not ready to go home, you can pitch a tent and stay the night at one of many beautiful camping areas in the national park.
